Complying with the Franchising Code of Conduct

All franchise businesses are required by law to comply with the Franchising Code of Conduct. As a franchisee, the code details:

  • your rights
  • your obligations
  • the information franchisors must disclose to you
  • the elements a franchise agreement must contain
  • a mediation procedure for disputes.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the Franchising Code of Conduct. It provides small business consumer information for people buying, extending or renewing a franchise.

Recent changes to the Code

In March 2008, there will be a number of amendments to the Franchising Code of Conduct to help protect your rights.

For further information on the Amendments to the Franchising Code of Conduct, please visit the ACCC website or phone the small business helpline on 1300 302 021.
