If you own or manage freehold, leasehold or native title land, you may be eligible to apply for assistance to conserve your land under the recently launched Caring for our Country - Environmental Stewardship Program.
Managed jointly by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, this program allows land managers to submit bids showing how much it will cost to implement conservation strategies on their land. Bids will be considered on the basis of the amount of environmental benefit they will provide, and those that are successful will be reimbursed under the program.
The Box Gum Grassy Woodland located within the wheat and sheep belt from Queensland through to Victoria is the first environmental asset being targeted for funding.
If you think you may be eligible for assistance or want to know more about the program, visit the National Resource Management website.
