Every year on 8 March we celebrate International Women’s Day. It’s a day to highlight the incredible achievements and accomplishments of women, as well as raise awareness about discrimination and inequality.

The theme for 2024 is Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress. This theme encourages us to work towards greater economic inclusion for women and girls everywhere, removing the obstacles that prevent equal participation in the economy.

Working towards equality

The Australian business community has come a long way when it comes to equality and inclusion. The gender pay gap in Australia has been steadily decreasing over the past decade – it is now 21.7% according to the latest data from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency.

In 2023 the Australian Government passed the Workplace Gender Equality Amendment bill to help accelerate the closing of the gender pay gap. It means that from 2024 employers with 100 or more workers will have their gender pay gap data publicly available, to drive transparency and action to reduce the gap.
