One contract valued at $5.5 million, will continue the development of the Bluebottle technology, an innovative and award winning unmanned surface vessel. If successful, the Bluebottle could provide the Royal Australian Navy with a unique interoperable capability to help protect Australian maritime borders. Under this phase 4 contract Ocius will test and evaluate how the Bluebottle integrates with Defence systems. 

Other exciting new technologies being developed through this tranche of investments include space, cyber and maritime systems which seek to enhance situational awareness across multiple domains. This tranche also includes contracts that will explore a new training simulator for the Royal Australian Air Force and a vehicle maintenance system for the Army.

Defence Innovation Hub

To date, the Defence Innovation Hub has awarded 147 contracts valued at $240 million. More than 84% of this investment has been with micro, small and medium sized Australian companies.

The University of Sydney and Deakin University were both awarded contracts with the Hub as part of this announcement by Minister Price, taking the proportion of Hub's investment with Australian universities to around 8%.
