Maker Projects Stream A provides grants to Australian schools to set up a space for STEM activities. Students can use the spaces to access and work on emerging STEM technologies.
What do you get?

A grant of $2000 to $5000 to help establish a space for student STEM activities.

Who is this for?

Australian primary or secondary schools registered with a state or territory authority.


Maker Projects Stream A provides schools with grants to set up STEM maker spaces. A maker space is a place where students can explore their interests, use equipment and be creative. Students use the STEM maker spaces to:

  • apply STEM knowledge
  • develop entrepreneurial skills
  • gain experience working with emerging and advancing technologies

This grant is part of the Maker Projects program – a program to promote inquiry-based learning and encourage:

  • practical skills
  • creativity
  • entrepreneurial thinking

We aim to reach as many students as possible, including those in regional and disadvantaged areas.

Inspiring Australia – Science Engagement Programme

Maker Projects Stream A is part of the Inspiring Australia – Science Engagement Programme. This aims to:

  • engage the wider Australian community with the sciences, including through major activities like National Science Week
  • support public recognition, national awareness and pride in our best scientists and innovators
  • effectively communicate key science issues, between scientists, the general public and Australian decision makers in business and government
  • build skills and capability in STEM and digital literacy, in Australian schools and communities
