What is AeroPM?

After a successful 17-year career as an Aerospace Engineer with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), Emily Frizell established AeroPM in 2014.

In March 2018, AeroPM was accepted onto the Defence Support Services Panel, allowing CEO Emily to grow her company. By November 2018, AeroPM had a workforce of 20 talented engineers and project managers all working on above-the-line Defence projects.

During their growth phase Emily's husband Adam Frizell, came on board as the General Manager following 22 years in the RAAF – also as an Aerospace Engineer. The AeroPM brand became synonymous with high quality work, the company was quickly embedded within projects including:

  • Joint Strike Fighter
  • C-27 Spartan Battlefield Airlifter
  • Tactical Data Links
  • Explosive ordnance
  • Counter Improvised Explosive Devices (IED)

In 2019, AeroPM welcomed their 40th employee and expanded the business into Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Texas USA. In the same year, AeroPM was listed as the 17th largest ANZ small to medium defence enterprise in the Australian Defence Magazine.

Recently, AeroPM found a permanent residence in Barton ACT, and is aiming to employ its 47th person by the end of 2020.

What role has CDIC played?

In 2019, Adam reached out to the Centre for Defence Industry Capability (CDIC) and worked extensively with a Defence Business Adviser to develop recommendations to improve the business. AeroPM undertook a Defence Business Maturity assessment.

AeroPM’s Defence Business Adviser, Mark Ryan, was able to challenge the company from every angle and advise them on where to focus to improve their margins and revenue.

They are a great company, batting well above their weight in every respect – a company to watch out for over the coming years.

We are aiming to be in the defence market for a long time and we see that the support we have from the CDIC will prepare us for this.

Adam Frizell, General Manager AeroPM

By the end of 2020, AeroPM will have completed a range of initiatives recommended and supported by their CDIC Defence Business Adviser.

Three CDIC initiatives currently underway are:

  • a business advisory service
  • support to develop a strategic communications and stakeholder engagement program
  • a financial reporting advisory service

AeroPM’s social responsibility

AeroPM has a strong corporate-social responsibility culture, with close associations with Soldier On and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA). With a veteran employment rate of more than 90%, AeroPM supports veterans transitioning from Defence and this commitment is something about which both Emily and Adam are very proud.

AeroPM has developed a rigorous veteran transition program inducing mentoring, professional development and masterclasses. This has been recognised by DVA through AeroPM being identified as a top 3 finalist in the upcoming Prime Ministers Veterans Awards program. The winner will be announced on 24 March 2020.
