Airbus has formed Team Maier to partner with key Australian space and technology companies and academia with the aim of substantially increasing sovereign industrial space and defence capability in Australia.

What research and technology is Airbus seeking?


Airbus is seeking Innovation Proposals from Australian industry and academia on the following key development topics:

  • cyber security
  • new space
  • quantum technologies
  • space capabilities
  • prognostic enabled decision making
  • RT maritime situational awareness
  • spacecraft electrical systems
  • SST — LEO debris initial orbit determination
  • SST — on board data processing and compression
  • GEO IoT connectivity and enablers
  • dynamic optimisation of satellite operations
  • low cost user terminals for mega constellations

Expressions of Interest — Pitch Event


Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the Pitch Event should include the following:

  • Select the topic of the proposed research and development area you are interested in. For each topic, a separate application needs to be submitted.
  • Register your name or team and the chosen title with a short description of the proposed innovation or project by 18 February 2021.
  • Submit an abstract (max 600 words) and any supporting slides for the Pitch event, no later than 22 February 2021.
  • Pitch events will be scheduled and advised for each successful registration.

Mar- Apr 2021: Submission of detailed R&D Proposals

What happens if I'm successful?


Successful applicants will be invited to pitch their ideas to a selection committee of Airbus Technical Domain Managers, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to develop a detailed proposal for an innovation project. The pitches will be assessed on the applicability of the technology to the development topics, the Technology Readiness Level and the relevance of the technology to future needs. Organisations successful during the event will be invited for detailed discussions at a mutually convenient day and time.
