The On-Farm Drought Resilience Grant Program provides farm businesses located in Wellington, East Gippsland, Millewa and the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District with funding to invest in on-farm drought preparedness and to seek business advice.

Farm businesses in Wellington Shire, East Gippsland Shire, Millewa and the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District.

Overview

The program aims to help farm businesses manage current drought conditions and enhance the drought preparedness and longer-term viability of their farm.

Funding may be used for:

  • business decision making activities – up to $5000 (no co-contribution required)
  • infrastructure improvements – up to $5000 (with at least 50% co-contribution required)

Decision making activities include engaging professional services to:

  • prepare, review or update strategic business plans
  • undertake a business risk assessment, a skills audit or succession planning
  • engage agronomic services for the purpose of converting the farm to be more drought resilient

Infrastructure improvements include but are not limited to:

  • constructing a new, or upgrading an existing stock containment area
  • reticulated water systems using pumps, piping, tanks and troughs for livestock
  • irrigation system upgrades
  • drilling new stock water bores
  • grain and fodder storage
  • fencing to exclude wildlife
  • items to improve mobile phone connectivity
  • weed control
  • soil moisture probes

What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible, you must:

  • be registered as a primary producer with the Australian Tax Office and have an Australian business number (ABN)
  • be registered for GST
  • be the owner, operator, share farmer or lease holder of a commercial scale farm business located in an eligible local government area
  • be a farm business in Wellington Shire, East Gippsland Shire, Millewa or the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District
