The Small Business Bushfire Recovery Grant provides small businesses and non-profit organisations in eligible areas with funding to help with clean-up and immediate restoration costs.

Funding of up to $50,000.

Who is this for?

Small businesses or non-profit organisations located in eligible bushfire-affected regions.


Funding is to help pay costs of clean-up and reinstatement of your small business or non-profit organisation. This could include:

  • paying tradespeople to do safety inspections
  • equipment and materials required for cleaning up
  • the removal and disposal of damaged goods and materials 
  • repairing premises and internal fittings
  • hiring equipment and/or replacing stock needed to resume operations.

Costs that are not eligible include:

  • expenses covered under your small business or non-profit organisation's insurance policy
  • loss of income.

The maximum amount of funding is $50,000. This includes up to:

  • $25,000 for an initial claim – you'll need evidence of direct damage such as photographs, quotations, tax invoices or official receipts
  • $25,000 for a subsequent claim – you'll need evidence of full payment of costs.

What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible, you must:

  • have an Australian business number (ABN)
  • have held that ABN at the time of the eligible disaster
  • own a small business located in a defined disaster area
  • have been carrying on the small business at the time of the bushfire
  • be intending to re-establish your small business in the same community or region
  • have suffered direct bushfire damage to your business and be responsible for the costs of repair or replacement
  • be a registered business with less than 20 full time (or equivalent) employees
  • earn more than 50% of your gross income from the business.
