Australian businesses have the chance to join in building the world’s largest radio telescopes. The first opportunity to express interest in a major Square Kilometre Array (SKA) construction contract is now open.

What construction contracts are available?

The first contract is for the construction and operation of a temporary accommodation facility. This facility will house people working on the construction of the SKA telescope in Western Australia’s Murchison region. In coming months, there will be opportunities to express interest for other major SKA infrastructure contracts that cover:

  • buildings
  • access roads
  • an airstrip
  • ground preparation
  • power and fibre networks.

What is the process to apply?

The process for the construction contracts:

  1. The Square Kilometre Array Observatory will use market surveys to identify potential suppliers for major contracts. Responding to the market survey is a mandatory first step for interested businesses.
  2. The potential suppliers will then be sent a pre-qualification questionnaire.
  3. Businesses that successfully prequalify will be invited to tender for the contract.
