National Science Week Grants

The National Science Week Grants program provides funding for science engagement activities during National Science Week  Australia's annual celebration of the sciences.

What do you get?

A grant of $2000 to $20,000 to support delivery of science engagement activities.

Who is this for?

You must either:

  • be an individual aged 18 years or older
  • have an Australian business number (ABN)

National Science Week is Australia's celebration of science held in August each year. The next National Science Week will be held from 15 to 23 August 2020.

National Science Week provides:

  • science engagement activities across Australia
  • an opportunity for the science community to celebrate and showcase science to the Australian public and the world

The Australian Government supports National Science Week in a variety of ways, including through the National Science Week Grants.

These grants help provide nationwide science engagement activities for the community. They support projects that:

  • are high profile – across all states and territories
  • stimulate further contributions by other organisations
  • target new and under-served audiences
  • engage Indigenous Australians in National Science Week activities

An open competitive funding round is held once a year.

  • The minimum grant amount is $2000.
  • The maximum grant amount is $20,000.

Your project must be worth more than the grant amount you are applying for. You must have some additional funding or in-kind contributions to support your project.

What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible, you must either:

  • be an individual 18 years of age or older
  • have an Australian business number (ABN)

You are not eligible to apply if you are a Commonwealth organisation, unless you’re a publicly funded research organisation.
