Overview
The Researcher Exchange and Development within Industry Initiative (REDI) is part of the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF). The fund supports research and addresses national priorities in a cohesive and coordinated way.
This grant will fund one service provider who will:
- facilitate connections between industry, universities, registered training organisations and government entities
- deliver, potentially in collaboration with joint service partners’ relevant training programs, industry placements, mentoring and exchange programs for researchers
This grant aims to provide researchers with a diverse range of experiences and exposure to entrepreneurism. Through these experiences, we hope researchers will continue and strengthen Australia’s success in commercialising and translating medical innovations that prevent, diagnose and treat disease.
REDI will provide a total of $32 million over 4 years:
- $8 million in 2019-20
- $10 million in 2020-21
- $10 million in 2021-22
- $4 million in 2022-23
Eligibility
What are the eligibility criteria?
To be eligible you must:
- have an Australian business number (ABN)
- be incorporated in Australia
You must also be one of the following eligible bodies, in accordance with s24 of the Medical Research Future Fund Act 2015:
- a medical research institute
- a university
- a corporate Commonwealth entity
- a corporation (including businesses and not for profits)
Tax-exempt organisations may apply for this grant opportunity.
Applying
How do you apply?
The Researcher Exchange and Development within Industry Initiative (REDI) grant opportunity is currently closed to applications.We assess your application against the eligibility criteria and then against the merit criteria. Only eligible applications will proceed to the merit assessment stage.
The amount of detail and supporting evidence you provide in your application should be relative to the project size, complexity and grant amount requested. You should define, quantify and provide evidence to support your answers. The sample application form displays character limits.
The program delegate will make the final decision.
To be competitive, you must score highly against all of the merit criteria.
- Merit criterion 1: The extent that your project enhances researchers’ capacity to commercialise and translate new or existing health research (40 points).
- Merit criterion 2: Your capacity, capability and resources to deliver the project (30 points).
- Merit criterion 3: Impact of grant funding (30 points).
If your application is successful, you’ll receive a written offer.
Successful applicants must enter into a grant agreement with the Commonwealth. The grant agreement will specify the reporting requirements, payment schedule and milestones necessary to receive payments.
If you’re unsuccessful, we’ll notify you in writing and give you the chance to discuss the outcome with us.
