Australia is currently at level 2 of the National Fuel Security Plan. This means fuel remains available, but supply pressures and localised disruptions may impact businesses. The Australian Government is supporting business to continue to operate, reduce cost pressures and keep supply chains moving.

For impacted businesses:

  • The Economic Resilience Program provides interest-free loans to impacted manufacturing and logistics businesses in critical sectors.
  • The fuel excise on petrol and diesel has been reduced by 32 cents per litre until 30 June.
  • The Heavy Vehicle Road User Charge has been reduced to zero for 3 months. The next scheduled increase will also be deferred by 6 months.
  • The first road transport contractual chain order has been issued. It sets rules for fuel cost recovery for workers, businesses and others in a road transport contractual chain. The order applies from 21 April 2026. It will stop applying when the weekly average national terminal gate price for diesel falls below $2 per litre.
  • Temporary relief for businesses unable to meet their tax obligations because of fuel supply issues, where appropriate. This includes a tailored payment plan for businesses affected by the high price of fuel.
  • The Small Business Responsible Lending Obligation exemption will extend for a further 10 years. Making easier for small businesses to access credit if they need it.
