Overview

Allowances are available to cover the costs incurred by employers when apprentices and trainees are required to travel long distances to a Nominated Training Organisation (NTO) that delivers their qualification.

Travel and accommodation allowances include:

  • intrastate travel – 30c per kilometre for the shortest practical route
  • interstate travel – calculated at a set rate based on an economy airfare
  • intrastate accommodation – $60 a day
  • interstate accommodation – $110 per day for pre-approved training delivered in other states.

Check if you can apply

To be eligible to receive an allowance, an employer must employ an apprentice or trainee that:

  • has an approved Training Contract registered in South Australia
  • is required to travel in excess of 150 km (round trip) between their normal place of residence and the nearest training venue offering the apprenticeship/traineeship qualification
  • resides within a non-metropolitan area of South Australia.
