This program provides grant funding to protect children in your community who are at risk of attack, harassment or violence stemming from racial or religious intolerance. We provide grants between $50,000 and $1.5 million, to schools, preschools, local councils, and community and religious organisations for security infrastructure and engagement activities.

About the program

The program aims to help protect children in your community who are at risk of attack, harassment or violence stemming from racial or religious intolerance.

Grants are available between $50,000 and $1.5 million.

The grant will support you to improve security infrastructure, or provide engagement activities.

You must complete your projects by 30 September 2023.

Infrastructure activities

Activities could include the installation of:

  • fixed mobile CCTV cameras
  • security lighting
  • fencing
  • bollards
  • security and alarm systems
  • public address systems
  • intercoms and swipe access

Security support

Schools and preschools may consider employing or hiring security guards. These guards would need to be licensed by the relevant state or territory agency to operate at the schools and preschools.

Engagement activities

Activities can include:

  • social cohesion projects that reduce the chance of children being attacked or harassed due to racial or religious intolerance
  • community and youth engagement forums targeted at people at risk of offending to reduce security risks stemming from racial or religious intolerance
  • training for staff at organisations who work with children with the aim of reducing racial or religious intolerance
  • other preventative activities that can demonstrate a reduction in the chance of children being attacked or harassed due to racial or religious intolerance.
