When you’re next waiting for your coffee order, for the washing machine to finish or for a customer to walk through the door, tick off one of these 5 tasks.

If you have 5 minutes: Update your Instagram bio

Having a good Instagram bio is important as it is people's first online introduction to your business. Your Instagram bio should be easy to read and quickly explain what your business does or sells.

Use your bio to show off what makes your business unique and your brand’s personality. Check that your bio includes a call to action and any relevant links.

Updating your bio won’t take you any longer than 5 minutes to update so review it regularly and keep it fresh.

If you have 10 minutes: Build your online community

Building an online community with your customers can benefit your business in many ways. It can:

  • improve your business’ reputation
  • increase engagement and drive sales of your product or services
  • lead to opportunities of improvement by taking on board feedback.

Building an online community doesn’t happen overnight. Spend 10 minutes a day responding to comments on your social media post or any posts you’ve been tagged in. Engaging with your customers online can go a long way in building trust and loyalty.

If you have 30 minutes: Find events or training for your business

As a business owner, you should never stop learning. Continuous learning will help your business stay competitive and innovative.

Networking, attending events and participating in training opportunities are all great ways to keep learning.

Spend 30 minutes researching events or training in your area and add them to your calendar.

If you have 60 minutes: Review your business plan

A business plan sets you up for success when you start and helps you adapt as your business grows. You should review your business plan at least once a year, so if you have 60 minutes, why not start today.

When reviewing your business plan, think about if any of your goals have changed. Reflect on the last year and see what you’ll do differently going forward.

If you have 2 hours: Write a marketing plan

A marketing plan helps you define the activities and channels you’ll use to promote your business. It will help you define your target market and the best way to reach them.

A marketing plan is a great tool to set SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timebound) marketing goals.
